CALCITIC LIME APPLICATION

Regular liming is important to the overall health and appearance of your lawn.

Acidic soil pH conditions are common in Atlantic Canada and can affect the chemistry of the soil, making it more challenging to grow a healthy lawn. If your soil is too acidic it ties up the essential nutrients making them unavailable to your lawn. The optimal soil pH ranges between 6.5 to 7.0.

Lime is necessary to improve the pH balance in your soil. Once the soil pH is neutralized, it will help to increase your lawn's ability to take in nutrients thereby improving fertilizer performance, helps to reduce moss, and improve your lawn's resistance to insects and disease.

Annual applications are recommended in Nova Scotia due to acidic soil pH conditions. If your lawn has very acidic soil, more than one application each year may be necessary to maintain an adequate pH balance.

Our Calcitic lime is a granular product that is greyish-brown and may be difficult to see when applied to the lawn. Calcitic lime is more effective than regular dolomitic lime. Unlike regular lime applications that can take up to 2-3 years to breakdown and start working, calcitic lime is designed to work quickly to neutralize soil pH and free up essential nutrients.
